he lost his head

I'm going to be talking about Baroque women artists next week in one of the classes that I teach. In doing a little research for the leature, I found this page that has many, many images by 15th and 16th century artists who address the Biblical story of Judith beheading Holofenes.

If you're into it, I heartily recommend stopping there for awhile and making comparisons bewteen how the various artists render the scene. In my (and most scholars) book, no tells it quite like Artemsia Gentileschi.
