of detritus and flotsam

Moose asks: "... What are "detrius forms"?..."

de·tri·tus (d-trts)
n. pl. detritus
Loose matter resulting from the wearing away or disintegration of tissue or other material.
(Sorry for leading you astray. My typing is terrible!)

That the denotative version, of course.

Subjectively, I think of detritus being all the flotsam one would find on the floor of a forest, lake, ocean, stream, etc...

Flostam. Another really good word!
